On the Artist Chart, Janet Jackson reaches a new peak of #1 replacing Monica this week making her only the 7th artist to ever reach #1 on the Artist Chart since the top spot is pretty hard to get. Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey both stay stable at #3 and #4 while Brandy reaches the top 5 up 5 places from her #10 placement last week.
On the Albums Chart, The Boy Is Mine spends its 7th week at #1 becoming the only album to debut at #1 and stay there for 7 weeks and it extends its record as the 2nd longest running #1 album. "Rhythm Nation 1814" by Janet Jackson launches into the top 2 of the chart going up 30 places to its new peak of #2 while "janet. " moves to #3 down 1 spot from its peak of #2. "Control" by Janet Jackson reaches a new peak in its 14th week at #4 gaining 26 places. This makes Janet Jackson one of the only artist to have 3 albums be top 5 at the same time. Brandy returns to the top 5 for a second week with "Never Say Never" as well.
On the singles chart, Monica and Brandy's "The Boy Is Mine" becomes Monica's 3rd consecutive #1 and Brandy's first #1. It becomes one of the only songs to have 2 versions on the charts as the Glee Cast version places at #15 due to the chart rules that state a 2nd version must be at least half of the original version of the song for the songs to be combined on the charts. This is the Glee Cast 2nd top 15 song the most of any group. "Angel of Mine" by Monica moves down 1 spot to #2 as Janet Jackson debuts 2 songs in the top 5 "Lets Wait Awhile" at #3 and "Come Back To Me" at #4 both of which make her the artist with the 2nd most top 5 debuts behind Ariana Grande. Her single "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" breaks the record for largest jump in history previously held by "Run To You" which rose more than 30 places to #1 early in the chart history but this week "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" enters the top 5 placing 44 spots above its previous position of #49.
