Chart Points or Plays. How Do You Measure the success of a song/album/artist?

I see lots of people use plays, and others use the points statistics to measure an artists all time states. What do you use?

Personally I use Plays, but Points makes more sense because it shows longevity on the charts vs a 1 week stint performance of a song.
