Anybody who follows my chart page on Twitter (zerocharts_data) knows that 2021 is the year of Janet Jackson. She has achieved 3 #1 albums and 13 #1 singles.
Her album "Rhythm Nation 1814" (RN1814) has been deeply influential in the charts trends for 2021 and also has seen the most success of any album in history. The album has the chance to spend a 13th week atop the albums chart (If Olivia Rodrigo's Sour doesnt take the #1 spot again) which would extend Janets record as the artist with the most weeks at #1 on all of the charts as she overtook Whitney Houston's record last month after spending 23 weeks atop the artist chart.
The album has spawned 7 #1 hits, the most of any album and like previously stated has spent the most weeks at #1 on the Albums Chart with its current # of weeks at #1 being 12. All of the albums singles reached the top 20 (the same with all 29 of Janets chart entries). Its biggest single on the All-Time chart is "Come Back To Me" which reached #1 on the Radio, RNB, Pop, and Hot 50 charts making Janet the only artist to achieve this feat. The single is currently certified 6x Platinum and is a strong contender for Song of the Year when award season rolls around in October/December for the Hot 50 year end and genre awards.
If it does return to #1, it will be carried by its unexpeted hit single "Black Cat" which is a rock heavy single and is the only rock song to enter the charts since Machine Gun Kellys Rock/Alternative era ended in October of 2020.
