For the Artist chart Monica stays at #1 with Janet Jackson staying at #2 as well. Whitney Houston rises to #3 and Mariah Carey falls to #4 while Ariana Grande stays at #5. With a 500% increase Toni Braxton re-enters the top 10 this week at #7 while Mary J Blige re-enters the chart at #6 due to her #1 debut "Sweet Thing"
This weeks album chart sees "The Boy Is Mine" spending its 5th week at #1 only needing 3 more weeks at #1 to tie Ariana Grande's "Positions" as the longest running #1 album. It is the only album to spend its first 5 weeks at #1 and one of the only albums to spend 5 consecutive weeks in the top 5. Monica returns to #2 with "Miss Thang" making her the only artist to hold the top 2 spots multiple times with the same 2 albums. "Janet" slips to #3 while "What's the 411?" re-enters at #4 becoming the only album to ever re-enter the chart inside the top 5. Rising 20 spots "Secrets" by Toni Braxton sees its 6th week in the top 10 as well as "Whitney Houston" returning to the top 10 spending its 26th week in the top 10 breaking its tie with "The Bodyguard" as the longest top 10 album.
On the singles chart with 72 plays and setting a new record for biggest debut for a single "Sweet Thing" has debuted at #1 making Mary J Blige the artist with the most consecutive #1 singles and #1 debuts with all 3 of her singles being #1 and all debuting atop the chart. She did this with "Be Without You" and "Real Love". "Angel of Mine" by Monica could return to #1 for tis 4th consecutive week due to the chart rule that all #1 debuts that fall out of the top 20 the 2nd week lose their #1 debut status and debut at #2. For now though, the single has slipped to #2 still being the longest running top 5 single of the year with 5 weeks. "I Get Lonely" stays stable at #3 while "The First Night" spends its 5th week at #4 becoming the longest song to stay in the same position below #1. "That's the Way Love Goes: by Janet Jackson falls 3 spots to #5.
