Here's a little taste:

Petal arrives as Ariana Grande's 8th studio album amid a flurry of press, what with the release of 2 blockbuster films, a successful comeback album in Eternal Sunshine, and an active world tour. It's all go, no stops for the pop star and anticipation for her album reached a fever pitch leading up to its release.

We were told by the artist to expect "unfiltered rage" and "feral[ity]". In previous work, the artist usually dulls her voice, pulling back from saying directly what she truly feels and this record promised to be more honest, explicit, and confessional. More on this later.

In all honesty, I had doubts about Grande's ability to deliver this. I've been a tangential fan of her since her victorious days, and became somewhat of a "stan" around Sweetener era. And from what I've observed from her, I've never known her to be anything close to feral or rageful. She's always appeared to me as someone who, especially around the time that I came to really love her, struggle with the intensity of fame and more importantly, scrutiny. She's always been a simultaneously loved and scrutinized figure and that all comes to an unsurprising boiling point as, post-Wicked, the general public develops an unhealthy fetish for discussing her body.
